GREENSBURG (September 14) – Commissioner Ted Kopas and Gerald Lucia, Democratic candidates for Westmoreland County Commissioner, today called upon local nonprofit and civic groups and area educational institutions to host debates during this year’s campaign.
“The residents of this county deserve an open and honest campaign, and the best way to do so is through debates, where we have an opportunity to talk directly to voters – and to each other,” Kopas said. “In previous commissioner campaigns, local groups have sponsored debates, but to date there are none scheduled. We are hopeful that some local groups or colleges will step forward soon with less than two months remaining before Election Day.”
“Ted Kopas and I are proud of our records, excited to be working as a team, and eager to take our message of quality services, fiscal responsibility, honesty and hard work directly to voters,” Lucia said. “Debates are a key part of our democracy.”
“If we learned anything from a recent candidates’ forum our opponents need to be challenged on what they are saying and be required to answer questions, using specifics not slogans,” Kopas said. “Jerry Lucia and I are open to any forum, anywhere.”
