Westmoreland County Office of Veterans Affairs has a new home

December 21, 2016, Greensburg–Veterans and dependent family members can obtain assistance with filing VA claims and accessing veterans’ benefits from County Veterans Affairs staff in their new home on the 2nd floor of the County Courthouse.

According to Matt Zamosky, Veterans Affairs Director, “The new space will offer an environment more conducive to efficiently serving veterans and their family members.”

The department’s work load has significantly increased in recent years, and the previous space could no longer accommodate it. The new space has four areas for staff to work with veterans on confidential matters such as disability claims or financial assistance, allowing staff to be respectful of privacy wishes. Visitors will also have access to a comfortable able to wait for appointments. In addition, flexible space will make it possible to accommodate work study students pursuing college degrees through federal VA programs.

With the support of the County Commissioners, Public Works, and Information Systems, the move was largely accomplished in only one day. Even with the demands of moving an entire suite of furniture, equipment, and staff materials, service to veterans was un-interrupted.
