December 15, 2012 – Breaking ground for the Simeral Square project. The county is partnering with Downtown West Newton Inc. and the Borough to revitalize the town and promote recreation along the waterfront.
November 16, 2012 – Visiting with the soldiers of Company D of the Army National Guard’s 112th Infantry during their training at the Westmoreland County Community College’s Public Safety Training Center in Smithton.
October 26, 2012 – It was a true honor for me to spend some time with President Bill Clinton recently at a rally for Congressman Mark Critz. But more importantly, we were together to endorse Mark Critz as a Congressman who can carry on President Clinton’s legacy of job creation, balanced budgets and fighting for the middle class.
October 17, 2012 – A wonderful reception today for the artists, their families and their caregivers whose work now adorns the Commissioners’ conference room in the Courthouse. My thanks to all of them for agreeing to my request to donate their work.
October 9, 2012 – Celebrating the grand opening of the expansion of the Private Industry Council’s Education and Technology Institute. The program helps disadvantaged and non-traditional students get a new start.
October 5, 2012 – Our work to preserve county history in Derry is paying off and soon folks in the Simpson precinct will be voting again in the last county-owned voting house, common in the 19th century. I accepted a plaque from Evelyn Ruffing of the Derry Area Historical Society at the newly restored Simpson Voting House. Joining us at the ceremony are State Rep. Joe Petraca and Derry Township Supervisors Dan Rullo and Dave Slifka.

July 20, 2012 – With my new buddy, Jack, from Scottdale, at Westmoreland Casemanagement’s Photo Voice Project display. Jack was one of the photographers who took pictures to depict what they need to live well as they recover from mental illness. It was a remarkable display by some really inspiring people.
July 3, 2012 – Barry Delisso, Export Borough Councilman, is awarded the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from the State Association of Boroughs. Commissioner Kopas is joined at the ceremony by Congressman Mark Critz and Export Mayor Mike Calder.
June 28, 2012 – With former governor Tom Ridge at the annual awards banquet for the Pennsylvania Environmental Council in Pittsburgh. The Westmoreland Conservation District was among the awards recipients.

April 27 – Presenting awards to the winning teams of the Envirothon at Twin Lakes Park. Every year local high school participate in this comprehensive test of conservation knowledge sponsored by the Westmoreland Conservation District.
