November 3, 2013 – Marking the 15th anniversary of Norwin Meals on Wheels, with Jim McCurdy and Clint Page.
October 24, 1013 – Honoring proud new GED graduates who earned their diploma through the Private Industry Council of Westmoreland County. The graduation ceremony coincided with the 30th anniversary celebration of this fine organization that also helps dislocated workers and administers early childhood education.
October 20, 2013 – Congratulations to USW Local 1145 from Elliot Company in Jeannette on being one of the honorees at the 2013 Westmoreland Labor Council banquet. Other honorees were Cheryl Long from SIEU and Judge John Driscoll. Our nation is stronger when we have strong unions.
October 2, 2013 – My favorite parks event of the year! Every year we welcome hundreds of students with special needs, their teachers and aides to Twin Lakes for “You’ve Got A Friend Day”. My Quinn made some new friends…including magician Dennie Huber and Debo the Clown.
September 28, 2013 – Teddy and Jack hanging with Sparky at the Mt. Pleasant Glass Festival Parade. They ate more candy than the whole crowd…and this was before the parade even started!
September 5, 2013 – With James Bell, who along with his wife Antoinette, built at their own expense a memorial in their backyard to honor the 51 soldiers of the K-75th Ranger Company who were killed during the Vietnam War.
August 26, 2013 – Thanks to all who made our 2013 Golf Tournament a tremendous success!
August 7, 2013 – More good economic news for the county and for the Mon Valley. Welcoming Green Field Energy Services to the City of Monessen.
August 2 – The nearly completed training center for the Operating Engineers Local 66 will help prepare workers for family-sustaining jobs in highway construction, the gas industry and more.
July 29 – Barstool bipartisanship! State Senator Kim Ward and I serve as guest bartenders at the Pepperwood Grille in Greensburg. Together we raised nearly $3000 in tips to benefit the Humane Society of Westmoreland County.
July 26 -With disability rights advocate Norene Price at the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of the landmark Americans With Disabilities Act.
July 24, 2013 – A special visit from Coach Dan and the (13-0!) Jeannette Knee-Hi Basketball Team I helped sponsor. I even got my own warm-up! Thanks fellas and congrats on a great season.
July 22 – Meeting with teens living at Adelphoi Village in Latrobe who are atoning for past mistakes and working to turn around their lives.
July 19 – Well done James Vought! For his Eagle Scout project, 18-year-old Jim worked with the Army Corps of Engineers and New Alexandria Borough to construct a canoe/kayak launch to the Loyalhanna Creek.
July 4, 2013 – Happy Independence Day! Getting ready for the Latrobe 4th of July parade with State Rep. Joe Petraca, Prothonotary Christina O’Brien, Democratic Committee Executive Director Jesse Walker…and, of course, Jack!
June 14 – Christening new flights to Dallas from our Arnold Palmer Regional Airport.
May 29, 2013 – Always good to visit my friends at the East Vandergrift Senior Center, including Borough Council President Jim Stanczak.
May 20, 2013 – Every year we get great praise for the beautiful flowers in the Courtyard, even though it’s really the hard work of a great group of volunteers from the Westmoreland Botanical Society, Penn State Extension, Westmoreland Conservation District and more. So this year I decided to actually help!
May 18, 2013 – Congratulations to my friend Joe Rudnick for 40 years of service in the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. Joe was one of 10 Mount Pleasant firefighters honored at the department’s annual banquet.
May, 16, 2013 – Welcoming back the Simpson Voting House in Derry Township. After years of work by the county and some great partners, it will once again be used for voting. Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele today designated the 19th century house as a “Keystone of Democracy”. My good friend, Derry Area Historical Society President Evelyn Ruffing, has been the driving force to make this project a reality.
May 14, 2013 – Kicking off the 1st Annual Mental Health Awareness Walk at Twin Lakes. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and there are many events throughout the county. Please show your support for our friends and neighbors with behavioral health challenges.
May 10, 2013 – With three good New Kensington friends, and community leaders, Councilman John Regoli, Mayor Tom Guzzo and Councilman Todd Mentecki.
May 9, 2013 – Congratulations to the 2013 Innovations Awards, presented by Mental Health America of Westmoreland County. You are all inspirations…helping to treat behavorial health issues and removing stigmas.
April 20, 2013 – Yes, we’re all wearing women’s high heels! “Walking A Mile in Her Shoes” with my new friends from the Seton Hill football team. A great event by the Blackburn Center to raise awareness about ending domestic, sexual and gender violence.
April 15, 2013 – The Sewickley Creek Watershed Association is doing great work to improve our environment. An innovative passive treatment system at Lowber is not only cleaning up mine drainage, but the iron byproduct is being sold as dye for paints and stain to help pay for the maintenance of the system. Kudos to my friends, SCWA member Larry Myers and Rob Cronauer of our Conservation District.
April 13, 2013 – Presenting medals to swimmers at the Special Olympics at the Greensburg YMCA. What an inspiring group of athletes!
April 10 – Kicking off a $28 million capital campaign at Westmoreland County Community College, with WCCC President Dan Obara, WCCC Foundation Chair Bud Smail and Trustee Gene Ciafre. Few goals of government are more important than providing affordable quality education, and no institutions do it better than WCCC.
April 9, 2013 – Always a pleasure to visit Mr. Ken Stough’s Project 18 class at Hempfield High School.
March 30, 2013 — Happy Easter from my family to yours! Our weekend celebration included hunting Easter eggs at Greensburg’s St. Clair Park.
March 16, 2013 – With the Reverend Carl Jones and staffers of the new Each One Teach One Learning Center at the Greater Parkview Church in Greensburg. It’s a fantastic new childcare and early learning center. (The students there will no doubt be happier than my Jack was taking this picture!)

January 26, 2013 — Proud to be an American! Welcoming six new Americans during a naturalization ceremony at the Courthouse, organized by Prothonotary Christina O’Brien. These new citizens – from Peru, China, Russia, and India – make our culture richer and our country stronger.
