December 27, 2010- The following is a letter to the editor that I sent to the Tribune-Review on December 23, regarding the impasse over the county’s budget, and the reality of the situation. I want to share it with you in its complete, unedited form.
December 10, 2010- The headlines in the county’s largest newspaper are meant to grab your attention, but is Westmoreland County’s budget situation any different from our local municipalities? Absolutely not. The challenges are similar, and so are the solutions. But far too often, the reality of government budgets is clouded by presentation, perception and politics.
November 14, 2010- Ok, let’s get this out of the way right off the bat. I’ll admit it: that was quite a whipping we took. Like everyone else, I anticipated losses. But that was ugly, no way to sugarcoat it. The question now is, where do Democrats go from here? We need to do some serious re-evaluation, both locally and nationally, about who we are as a party, what we stand for, who are candidates are, and how we get our message out.
September 9, 2010- Because sometimes nothing else really matters…
August 17, 2010-I had the opportunity to meet U.S. Senate candidate Joe Sestak last evening. What a remarkable man, and what a welcome relief. It was so refreshing to hear a candidate communicate well-thought positions, and solutions, to the challenges we face, instead of the typical recycled talking points that too often pass for political discourse nowadays.
August 4, 2010-I want to sincerely thank everyone who participated in our first-ever fundraiser on July 29. We far exceeded my expectations. I am honored and humbled. When you plan events like these for the first time, you never know what to expect.
